THE ASPHALTING WORK OF THE FIRST OF THREE LAYERS TO BE LAID ON THE AUTODROMO HERMANOS RODRIGUEZ, VENUE OF THE FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MEXICO 2015®, BEGINS.

Last weekend, the asphalting work of the first of three layers of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez began 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

After performing several tests in the area known as “The stadium”, which includes curves 4, 5 and 6, the works for the 5 cm-thick Base Course began. 

For the asphalting of the 4.3 kilometers of the route, the complex “Moises Solana” received an asphalt plant with capacity of 250 tons of mixture per hour, which will be used to pave the 19,500 total m3 including escape areas, tracks and paddock.

This plant will improve the efficiency of the asphalt paving in the track with greater quality control in the end result. Experts in charge of the process determined the area of curve 1, 2 and 3 is the ideal location to install the plant, for collection of all materials and distribution of the mixture to the different parts of the circuit.

The asphalting process begins with the first layer, known as the Base Course. This is the foundation to begin with the installation of the drainage system and “pianos” or “sinks”. A second, 2 cm- thick layer (Binder Course) will be subsequently placed, leaving everything ready for the last, 3 cm.- thick layer at the end of July (Wearing Course).

Similarly, the asphalting of “Run Offs” or escape routes has began, with only 2 of the 3 layers (Base Course and Wearing Course) in the Stadium area as well.

It is estimated that asphalting work will continue over the next 2 months towards the “S” area and the rest of the track, once completed the stadium area.

Efforts to work on the refurbishment of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez are currently in time to make 70% progress of the main or pit building, which will house the 33 pits and the control tower, 60% in the Media Center with capacity for 470 journalists and 30% in the medical services facility, which will feature intensive care, X rays, showers for burned patients, and anti-doping areas.
