Mexico City, February 1st, 2018.
Official FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MÉXICO 2018™ poster artwork is unveiled
This inaugural poster is inspired by a traditional tree of life, a well-known Mexican handicraft that consists of an elaborate clay sculpture decorated with small figurines. These are crafted and painted individually, and then attached to the main “tree” to complete the structure and tell a story.
The tree of life handicraft dates back to the arrival of the Spaniards to America when they used the sculptures to teach religion to natives of the region. As such, the sculptures traditionally depict biblical passages.
In modern times, trees of life are also created with themes completely unrelated to the Bible, for example to tell stories from throughout Mexican history such as the origins of traditional dishes like “mole”. Sculptors also use the art to tell their life story, as the artist’s imagination is truly the limit when it comes to the tree of life’s depictions.
In the case of the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MÉXICO™ inspired tree, the pieces within the structure represent various characteristic elements of the race such as the drivers, Mexican fans, cars, steering wheels, Pirelli tyres and engines, amongst others. Together, the art takes the shape of a Grand Prix’ trophy.
Thanks to the energy and dedication of the Mexican Grand Prix fans since the return of the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MÉXICO™, it has been possible to portray a positive vision of Mexico, showcasing the country’s culture, gastronomy, music and human warmth, to name only a few. Through the poster, the organisers seek to once again demonstrate and acknowledge that the world’s best F1®ESTA is in Mexico.
